The CDC chose to focus on funding opportunities for postdocs and junior group leaders at ELSO 2002 in Nice,
with speakers from the Human Frontier Science Programme, EMBO and the Marie Curie Programme of the EC.
Funding information draws large audiences, but there was also a heated debate between certain members of the audience frustrated by EC bureaucracy, and Raffaele Liberali, the head of the Marie Curie programme.
ELSO has since developed strong and constructive contacts with Mr. Liberali and his team, which are helping to shape future EC policy. The success of this funding session led to the creation of an annual Funding Session at the ELSO congresses.
